If something isn't working

Fix the common problems with the browser extension: not connected, a grey button, update messages, and papers left for you.

Not connected

In the desktop app, open Library, then Browser connections. The badge shows the state:

BadgeWhat to do
Not installedInstall the extension. See `Install the Abstractus Connector`.
Installed, not connectedClick the button in your browser, then select `Connect to Abstractus Desktop`.
ConnectedNothing. You're set.
UnavailableRestart the desktop app.

The extension needs the desktop app open. If it says Open Abstractus Desktop, then try again, open the app and try again.

The button is grey

A grey button with off means this is a site the extension never touches. That is on purpose.

A grey button with off is on purpose. Nothing is saved on this site.

If the button isn't in your toolbar at all, click the puzzle piece and pin Abstractus Connector.

Update messages

MessageWhat to do
Update the Abstractus browser extensionThe extension is older than the app expects. Update it on your browser's extensions page.
Update Abstractus DesktopThe app is older than the extension expects. Update it from the Microsoft Store.

Then try again.

A paper ends "Needs your access" or "Publisher check"

These papers are left for you. In Get papers, select Open beside the paper. Sign in or finish the check in your browser, then save the paper with the Abstractus button.

Needs your access means the publisher asked to buy it or sign in.

Open Details to see what happened. A paper that ends No PDF found has a record but no PDF on the publisher's page.
